Berlin's newspaper "Der Tagesspiegel" recently listed Prof. Piet Bouwer, PI of TRR 227 project B03, among the "Top 100 Minds in Berlin Science 2025"

News from Oct 10, 2025

Prof. Dr. Piet Brouwer, professor of theoretical physics at Freie Universität Berlin, leads the research group for mesoscopic quantum physics. His work focuses on understanding electronic systems governed by the interplay of quantum mechanics and scattering by impurities and boundaries. Examples include semiconductor or metal wires, metallic nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and semiconductor quantum dots.

Within the TRR 227 project B03, his research focuses on developing analytical models that describe the buildup and decay of magnetic excitations in both conducting and insulating systems. On the one hand, this involves developing a theory of spin-dependent quantum transport in hybrid magnetic/metallic systems that systematically goes beyond the well-established time-independent framework. On the other hand, it includes the development of a theory for the coupling between magnons and electrons at the interface between a magnetic insulator and a normal metal.

He was now listed as among the "Top 100 Minds in Berlin Science 2025" by Berlin's newspaper "Der Tagesspiegel".

Congratulations!
