Congratulations to TRR 227 iRTG member Kathrin Plass, who has been awarded the Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Preis 2025 by the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg for her outstanding Master’s thesis in the field of solid-state physics.

News from May 09, 2025

Kathrin Plass, now a PhD student in the group of Prof. Wolf Widdra, TRR 227 project leader of A06, at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg has received the Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Preis 2025 for her outstanding Master's thesis on double photonemission from C60 on strontium titanate using pulsed laser radiation. With remarkable scientific skill, Kathrin conducted a globally unique experiment that for the first time enabled the orbital-specific measurement of electron correlations in a molecular layer using high-repetition harmonic laser radiation. This pioneering achievment paves the way for a deeper understanding of many-body effects. These correlations are crucial for explaining phenomena such as superconductivity and magnetism.

Since 1994, the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg has awarded the Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Preis annually for outstanding final theses. The choice of Anton Wilhelm Amo as the award's namesake underlines the university’s commitment to openness and inclusion—regardless of religion, culture, skin color, or origin. The prize is endowed with 1,000 EUR.
